Planning issues

The planning application for 32 homes on the Little Acres Farm site off Frederick Road was deferred at the June planning committee meeting and will be decided at the meeting on 20th July. There is a petition submitted opposing it, mostly signed by people who don’t live in the ward, but there were otherwise few local objections. Our view as ward councillors is that it isn’t ideal, and is rather too dense. It includes a financial contribution to provide affordable housing offsite; to include it within the site would make the scheme ‘unviable’ – government rules say councils can’t insist on including social or affordable housing if a developer says it makes a scheme unviable. Tania Charman will speak against it at committee as the local councillor. If permission is granted, construction work is expected to start soon after.

There has still been no planning application for the ‘road to nowhere’ site further up Frederick Road, although the owners (Gemselect) have had some discussions with planners about the site.
