Ore ward report (June 2017)

If you would like to discuss any of the items below or to sign up for our monthly email report, please contact Cllrs Richard Street and Michael Wincott

Don’t forget to vote in the General Election on 8th June.

There isn’t a lot to report on this month as elections and arrangements for the new Council year have taken up most of everybody’s time.

Ore Village toilets

Some local residents were surprised to receive a letter from the MP just before the County Council elections informing them of “the decision taken by Labour-controlled Hastings Borough Council to close the Ore toilets next year”. The toilets will NOT close next year. A vigorous campaign involving both of us alongside Ore WI and many members of the local community convinced the Council that our toilets must remain open and they will remain open for the foreseeable future.

Annual Council

The Annual Council meeting took place in the Council Chamber at Muriel Matters House on 17th May. Judy Rogers (Castle ward) was re-elected as Mayor and Nigel Sinden (Silverhill ward) was re-elected as Deputy Mayor. Peter Chowney (Tressell) continues as Leader with Kim Forward (Gensing) as Deputy Leader. The Council’s Programme for the new municipal year was agreed. Richard continues to chair the Planning Committee on which Michael also sits.

Recordings of all public Council meetings can now be found on the Council’s website.
