Hastings & Rye Constituency Labour Party is proud to announce the result of its parliamentary candidate selection meeting.
Our members have selected Peter Chowney to be our candidate in the next general election. As the leader of Hastings Borough Council, Peter knows the problems we face and the opportunities we must grab to ensure we grow better as a society.
Peter was the candidate in the snap 2017 general election, where Labour came agonisingly close to toppling the current Home Secretary. We have put our faith in Peter Chowney and hope even more of the wonderful residents of Hastings & Rye give their vote to him next time.
After learning he had been selected, Peter Chowney said he was proud to have the opportunity to beat the Tories once again.
“Hastings & Rye is a constituency I adopted as my home 20 years ago,” he said. “It was an enormous privilege to stand as Labour’s candidate in the 2017 general election last year.
“I am very pleased I will be able to do that again and that Hastings & Rye members have placed their faith in me.
“Eight years of Conservative austerity has had a shocking and damaging effect on Hastings and Rye.
“I look forward to putting this right by being the MP for Hastings and Rye in the next Labour government.”
Hastings & Rye Labour Party, with Peter Chowney, look forward to the next election, whenever it is or whomever it is against.
We pass on our thanks to our former Labour MP, Michael Foster, who chaired the selection meeting so well; the staff at the White Rock Theatre; all the other candidates, Kim Forward, Arran Neathey and Nik Slingsby for contributing to such a memorable event.
