I am very pleased to have been elected as a Labour councillor in Old Hastings ward. I was born and raised in Hastings and I have always had a strong affinity with Old Hastings having worked, lived and socialised in the area. It is a key area for tourism as well as being a popular place to live. The opening of the Jerwood gallery and the £1 million FLAG money to develop fishing related initiatives will put Old Hastings prominently on the map. I have two school age children and work in the public sector. I have recently been campaigning with some success to retain public sector work in Hastings and will be putting my campaigning skills to use for Old Hastings residents and traders to ensure that the area continues to thrive whilst retaining its historical features.

I will:

  • Build on the excellent work already done by Councillor John Hodges and County Councillor Jeremy Birch in representing all residents of Old Hastings and work alongside other councillors to mitigate the effect of the huge cut in funding from central government.

  • Work with Old Town traders to ensure that they prosper and benefit from the extra footfall that the Jerwood gallery and open space on the Stade will bring.

  • Support the huge amount of voluntary work undertaken by the organisers of the many festivals and by the two residents’ associations; in particular the HOTRA group that is considering parking and traffic management to benefit all users of the space.

  • Support the fishermen who are a vital part of Hastings’ heritage and its continued regeneration

  • Work with residents and local businesses seeking ways to make Old Hastings a greener area

  • Be easy to contact, responding promptly to residents and issuing regular newsletters

  • Address concerns residents have about street cleaning and anti-social behaviour, especially at times where there are a large number of people in the area

  • Supports residents young and old including fighting to retain the Boyne Road play area and continue to support the Isabel Blackman centre.
