I am so proud to be chosen as your new councillor here in St Helens ward. I have many friends who live and work in the St Helens area and have enjoyed many muddy adventures in St Helens woods with my children come rain and shine.

I strongly believe that politics should foremost be about the people and how I can improve the lives of those who live in Hastings. Times are hard for huge parts of the population of our town, Low wages, poor housing and generations of poor education and ambition. Add to this the impact of the recession, public sector job cuts and worryingly large rises in utility bills and food prices affecting the whole country. This is a time for local councillors to step forward and provide leadership, imagination and creativity and have a true understanding of the real challenges of the people of Hastings.

I’ve worked and lived in Hastings for 25 years and for 11 of those as the proud manager of Xtrax young peoples centre working with the most disadvantaged young people offering them space and time to reflect make plans to get themselves an their lives back on track.

My work has taught me many things about the real lives of many of the people of Hastings and reinforced in what I believe about the value of treating all with dignity and respect no matter someone’s back ground or personal circumstances. We can always find ourselves in difficult situations and would hope we would be supported and listened to during these times.

I look forward to meeting as many of the St Helens residents as possible over the next four years and sharing your experiences and concerns for this beautiful and varied area of Hastings and will tirelessly campaign on the issues that the community feel passionately need addressing.
