An update from our chair Paul Barnett
It is six months since I was elected as Chair of Hastings and Rye Labour Party, along with Sarah Owen (Vice Chair) and Jonathan Lee (Secretary). Where has the time gone? So much has happened locally and nationally.
We had our best ever local election results in May, then a really disappointing outcome to the Referendum, and of course the surge in local membership. A year ago we had under 500 members, now it is over 2000! Remarkable.
It has been very frustrating not to be able to hold meetings to meet new members and take your ideas forward while the leadership election is on. But we have used the time to start organising for next year’s county council elections, and to apply for funding from the national party for a paid organiser. We want to do much more, but need help!
So this week there are three fact finding meetings for all those who have more than 12 months membership, so you can find out more about what being a councillor involves. Do come along, even if you have not yet even thought you might be interested.
And from September 27 the regular monthly decision-making meetings will start again, and all members are welcome at any of these.
Check out this website for regular updates or look out for the regular emails from your branch. If you don’t get these, do drop us a line and we will look into it!
Looking forward to meeting you
